The 1st Session of the Singapore Future AI Summit 2025 kicked off with great energy, bringing together 131 delegates from 21 countries for an insightful exploration of the intersection between technology, governance, and diplomacy. Opening the summit, Firmansyah Shidiq W. took the stage as the host, followed by the Opening Remark: “Singapore’s AI Vision to be a Global Leader in Innovation” delivered by Cyntia Lase , Founder of Secreative Kita.
The opening was followed by a special event: the launching of Indonesia’s first hybrid Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence Engineering Program Study offered by Islamic Institute of Pemalang (INSIP). This landmark event was launched by Arina Athiyallah, Vice Rector II of INSIP, who proudly announced the launch of INSIP’s new Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence Engineering program. She emphasized INSIP’s belief in empowering future-ready talent and shared that the institution is open to welcoming new students and visionary lecturers who share the same commitment to innovation and ethical AI development.

Following this, the session “Introduction to Technology Diplomacy and Its Impacts on AI Governance”, presented by Kotchaphan Bowonchaiyarit, Policy Developer at Thailand’s NXPO, set a high benchmark for understanding the strategic role of AI on the global stage.
The session underscored how technology diplomacy is emerging as a central instrument in international relations, positioning AI not just as a tool, but as a core actor that shapes norms, rules, and regulatory frameworks worldwide. This approach goes beyond digital diplomacy; it demands collaborative engagement between states and non-state actors, including major tech corporations, to ensure that innovation is safe, ethical, and sustainable.

Delegates explored the evolving landscape of global AI governance and standards, where frameworks like the AI Act and Risk Pyramid are creating structured approaches to regulate AI based on product risk. Initiatives such as the Global Digital Compact and international AI science panels demonstrate the critical need for transparency, baseline evaluation, and consensus-building, enabling interoperable and credible regulatory environments across countries.

The discussion also highlighted Southeast Asia’s growing role in AI infrastructure and capacity development.
Major investments from hyperscalers such as AWS, Google, and Microsoft are shaping the region’s data and cloud ecosystem, with Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia emerging as key hubs. These initiatives are designed not only to foster innovation but also to reinforce digital sovereignty, responsible data governance, and sustainable development.
At the geopolitical level, AI is now a strategic asset. Control over semiconductors, cloud infrastructure, and access to critical data defines national influence, with countries leveraging technology diplomacy to navigate both competition and collaboration. The session emphasized the importance of inclusive governance to bridge capacity gaps, ensuring equitable participation and avoiding digital dependence for countries with limited local models or language support.
The first session left delegates with a clear message: AI governance is no longer a niche technical challenge. It is a global diplomatic imperative. Harmonizing innovation, ethics, and societal interest requires multilateral collaboration, robust standards, and proactive strategies to balance national and global priorities.
As Singapore Future AI Summit continues, the conversation now turns to ethical AI, regional preparedness, and the role of collaboration in shaping a secure and equitable AI future. Today’s session has set the stage for a transformative dialogue that will resonate across borders and industries.
The Singapore Future AI Summit 2025, presented by INSIP Indonesia and organized by SecreativeKita is more than just an event, it’s a platform where knowledge, collaboration, and innovation converge to shape the future of Artificial Intelligence.
